Fontana, California – Renowned multimedia titan, best-selling author, and university professor Dr. Rashad Richey was honored with the prestigious Black Chamber of Commerce Inland Empire (IE) Award for his exceptional leadership, advocacy, media acumen, and philanthropy at the Neighbors United Political Action Committee (NUPAC) Holiday Luncheon. The event, held at The Hilltop Collection Banquet Center in Fontana, California, celebrated individuals who have made a significant impact on the Inland Empire community and the nation at large.
The NUPAC Holiday Luncheon, led by Co-Founder Shannon O’Brien, brought together guests from near and far to recognize extraordinary achievements in education, business, public safety, the arts, healthcare, faith-based initiatives, and nonprofit leadership. The event featured performances by Bear Williams, former base guitarist of Maze, and local band The Katz, providing a lively atmosphere for the attendees.
The keynote speaker, Emmy-nominated television political analyst, national radio personality, and opinion news anchor for the hit TV show, ‘Indisputable’, Dr. Rashad Richey delivered a powerful address at the event, further solidifying his impact on-air and off-air. With noteworthy appearances on MSNBC, Fox News, CNBC, and other media platforms, Dr. Richey has firmly established himself as an influential figure shaping the national discourse.
During his compelling speech, Dr. Richey shared his unique approach to education and problem-solving. Emphasizing his interdisciplinary outlook, he spoke about how he became a university professor in various fields such as physics, law, and social justice, finding innovative ways to blend these disciplines together. This multidisciplinary approach, according to Dr. Richey, holds the key to addressing complex issues from different perspectives.
At the heart of Dr. Richey’s speech was a call to action for social justice. He highlighted the need to transform both personal attitudes and systemic policies to achieve fairness and equity. Drawing from his experiences as a recent law school graduate and now the Director of Global Legal Operations for The International Law Group of Human & Civil Rights Attorneys P.C., a multinational law firm, Dr. Richey spoke passionately about his commitment to making a difference in the pursuit of societal justice. Furthermore, Dr. Richey acknowledged the interplay between science and spirituality. He pointed out the limitations of scientific explanations, while embracing the simplicity of spiritual beliefs.
In addition to honoring Dr. Rashad Richey, the NUPAC Holiday Luncheon recognized several individuals who have made significant contributions to their respective fields. The awards included the Public Safety Excellence Award presented to LaJuana Haselrig, the Business Excellence Award bestowed upon Stevenie Farmer, the Spiritual Leadership Excellence Award given to Pastor Terrence Sims, and the Arts & Entertainment Excellence Award presented to Bear Williams. The Nonprofit Excellence Award was earned by Katie McClendon, Healthcare Excellence Award was received by Stefanie Lockhart-Pettaway, and the Education Excellence Award was granted to Monique Stennis.
The event was made possible through the efforts of the Black Chamber of Commerce IE, a 501(c)6 organization based in San Bernardino, California, led by Tammy Martin-ryles. The chamber has been instrumental in promoting economic development within a culturally diverse business community by fostering networking opportunities, establishing business partnerships, and providing education. With a presence that extends across the San Bernardino and Riverside counties, the Black Chamber of Commerce IE continues to play a crucial role in the growth and success of local businesses.
As the curtains closed on the 2023 NUPAC Holiday Luncheon, it served as a momentous occasion that celebrated the achievements of individuals like Dr. Rashad Richey and underscored the commitment to creating a more equitable and just society. Dr. Richey, who overcame life as a foster kid and a gang-affiliated youth, was asked how he traverses so many disciplines and pack so much in his schedule, he said, “We are all more than just physical beings. Each person has a divine spark inside of them. Once you connect with that divine spark, mountains will move out of your way”.
